Dynamic Frame Engine for Shopify

Introducing: DYNAMIC FRAME ENGINE — Live picture frames for Shopify
A drop-in Shopify product page template that renders gallery-grade frames around your prints — live, on the page, as customers choose their size and style.

Selling framed art on Shopify usually means rendering dozens of product photographs — one for every size, every frame, every mount. Dynamic Frame Engine builds the frame on the page instead. Customers select a 16″ × 20″ Light Walnut with a float mount, and they see exactly that: rendered in real time, with the right proportions, materials, and shadows.
It's the kind of detail that turns browsers into buyers. And it's been running in production at hamishrobertson.com since the day the store opened.

What It Does

Dynamic Frame Engine ships with six frame materials — Black Gallery Wood, White Gallery Wood, Natural Light Wood, Light Walnut, Thin Black Metal, and Unframed. Each rendered with realistic gradients, layered shadows, and subtle wood-grain texture using only CSS and a touch of inline JavaScript. No image swaps. No flickering reloads. Just the frame your customer chose, rendered live, scaled proportionally to the print size.

Flush or float mount. Small prints with thin frames, large prints with gallery-weight frames, all calibrated automatically.

Who Built It

Built by an artist, for artists.

I'm Hamish Robertson — the co-founder of Vision in Motion and a photographer, designer, and creative director based in California. I built Dynamic Frame Engine for my own framed-print store at hamishrobertson.com, where every framed print on every product page uses exactly this code.

It's a tool I use every day, in production, in my own gallery practice. I made it because I needed it. I'm sharing it because every photographer or artist I know who sells prints on Shopify has the same problem — and most solutions are either expensive apps or fragile theme hacks. This isn't either.

Will this work with my theme?
Yes, if you're on any of the Shopify-built themes from the Dawn family — that includes Dawn itself, Sense, Craft, Refresh, Studio, Origin, Crave, Taste, Colorblock, Publisher, Spotlight, and Ride. These are the most common free Shopify themes. Premium themes are a roadmap item; if you're on Impulse, Motion, Prestige, or Be Yours, email me and I'll let you know when compatibility ships.

Will it affect my other products?
No. Dynamic Frame Engine installs as an additional product template. You assign it only to the products you want framed — typically your framed prints. Your other products keep their existing template untouched.

What if I need help installing it?
The package includes a step-by-step installation guide with screenshots. Most installs take under five minutes. If you hit anything unexpected, support@vision-in-motion.com — I respond personally, usually within two business days.

    Fact
Our studio borrows its name from Lazlo Moholy-Nagy’s 1947 book of the same name—a text elucidating the interrelation between art and technology, and exploring the ways in which photography, film, and multidisciplinary art and design practices can be used to capture and communicate the dynamism of the modern world.
